A Visit from a Longtime Obelisk Fan
昔からObeliskを応援してくださっている西山様が、ご来店くださいました。今回ご相談いただいたのは、20年間も愛用してくださった「ブーメランデニムパンツ」の新たなサイズオーダーです。
Mr. Nishiyama, a longtime supporter of Obelisk, visited our shop to commission a new custom pair of Boomerang Denim Pants — a design he has enjoyed wearing for 20 years.
ブーメランデニムパンツは、Obeliskのデニムブームを支えた原点の作品。長く履き続けてくださった一本との再会は、作り手としてもうれしく、特別な時間となりました。
The Boomerang Denim Pants are one of the original designs that helped spark Obelisk’s denim boom. Seeing a pair that has been worn and loved for so long was a special moment for us as the makers.
■ 20年間履き込まれた、愛着のある一本
A Beloved Pair Worn for 20 Years
長い年月を共にしてきたデニムには、履き込むことで生まれた風合いと、西山様だけの歴史が刻まれています。ひとつの作品をこれほど長く楽しんでいただけることに、心から感謝しています。
Years of wear have given the denim its own character, reflecting Mr. Nishiyama’s personal history with the garment. We are deeply grateful that he has enjoyed one of our creations for so many years.
■ ブーツカットからストレートへ
From Bootcut to Straight Leg
今回のご希望は、「新しいデニム生地で、自分のサイズに合わせて作ってほしい。そして、オリジナルのブーツカットではなく、裾までストレートのシルエットにしてほしい」というものでした。
His request was: “I’d like a new pair made with fresh denim in my own size. And instead of the original bootcut shape, I’d like a straight-leg silhouette all the way to the hems.”
オリジナルのブーメランデニムパンツは、裾に向かって広がるブーツカットシルエット。今回は、思い入れのあるデザインを受け継ぎながら、脚のラインをストレートに変更し、今の西山様に合う一本へと仕立てていきます。
The original Boomerang Denim Pants feature a bootcut silhouette that flares toward the hems. For this order, we are preserving the character of the beloved design while reshaping the legs into a straight silhouette, tailored to Mr. Nishiyama as he is today.
■ 採寸とパターン作成
Measurements and Pattern Making
まずは採寸を行い、西山様のサイズとご希望のシルエットに合わせてパターンを作成しました。長年親しんできたデザインを、新しいバランスで形にしていくための大切な工程です。
We began by taking his measurements and creating a pattern to suit his size and preferred silhouette. This is an essential step in giving a familiar design a new balance and fit.
■ トワル製作とフィッティング
Toile Making and Fitting
パターンをもとにトワルを製作し、実際にご試着いただきました。トワルとは、本番の生地を裁断する前に、サイズやシルエットを確認するための仮縫い用の服です。
Using the pattern, we made a toile for him to try on. A toile is a fabric mock-up used to check the fit and silhouette before cutting the final material.
フィッティングでは、ウエストやヒップ、脚まわりのゆとりを確認。あわせて、オリジナルのブーツカットから変更した、裾までのストレートラインも見ていただきました。
During the fitting, we checked the waist, hips, and room through the legs. We also reviewed the new straight line down to the hems, replacing the original bootcut shape.
サイズ感とシルエットにご納得いただき、いよいよ本番のデニム生地を使った製作へと進みます。
Once he was happy with the fit and silhouette, we were ready to move on to the final denim.
■ 新しいデニム生地の裁断へ
Cutting the New Denim
トワルで確認した形をもとに、新しいデニム生地の裁断まで進みました。20年間愛用していただいたブーメランデニムのデザインが、ストレートシルエットの新しい一本として、少しずつ形になっています。
With the shape confirmed through the toile fitting, we have now cut the new denim. The Boomerang Denim design he has loved for 20 years is gradually taking shape as a new pair with a straight-leg silhouette.
■ まとめ｜愛着のあるデザインを、これからも
Continuing the Story of a Favorite Design
今回のオーダーは、長年愛用してきたデザインを、新しい生地と今の自分に合うサイズ、そして好みのシルエットで楽しむためのものです。
This commission is about continuing to enjoy a longtime favorite design with fresh fabric, a personal fit, and a silhouette that suits his preferences today.
採寸、パターン作成、トワル製作、フィッティングを経て、現在はデニムの裁断まで完了しました。ここから、西山様だけの新しい一本を丁寧に縫い上げていきます。
The measurements, pattern making, toile, and fitting are complete, and the denim has now been cut. Next, we will carefully sew this new pair, made especially for Mr. Nishiyama.
