A Custom Studded Leather Jacket for Mr. Muraoka | From Fitting to Leatherwork

いつもObeliskをご愛用いただいているリピーターの村岡様。今回も蔵前の店舗へお越しいただき、スタッズライダースのオーダーをいただきました。

Our returning customer, Mr. Muraoka, visited our shop in Kuramae once again to order a custom studded leather jacket. Thank you for your continued support of Obelisk.

今回お選びいただいたのは、B’zの稲葉浩志さんが「FYOP」のポスターで着用された、Obeliskのスタッズライダース。そのデザインをもとに、村岡様の体型や着こなしに合わせた一着を製作しています。

He chose the Obelisk studded leather jacket worn by Koshi Inaba of B’z in the “FYOP” poster. Based on that design, we are creating a jacket tailored to Mr. Muraoka’s measurements and personal style.

まずは既製品をご試着

Starting with a Ready-Made Jacket

まずは店頭の既製品をご試着いただき、全体のシルエットやサイズ感を確認。肩まわり、身幅、着丈、袖丈などを見ながら、ご希望の着こなしを伺います。

We began with a fitting of our ready-made jacket to check the overall silhouette and fit. We looked at the shoulders, body width, body length, and sleeve length while discussing how he would like to wear the jacket.

実際に袖を通していただくことで、完成したときのイメージを共有しやすくなります。この試着を出発点に、村岡様専用のサイズとバランスを決めていきます。

Trying on the jacket helps us establish a shared vision of the finished piece. This initial fitting provides the starting point for developing the proportions and fit specifically for Mr. Muraoka.

採寸から、村岡様専用のパターン作成へ

Taking Measurements and Creating a Custom Pattern

既製品のフィッティングを参考にしながら、村岡様の身体を採寸。その寸法をもとに、専用のパターンを作成しました。

Using the initial fitting as a reference, we took Mr. Muraoka’s measurements and created a custom pattern for his jacket.

オーダーメイドでは、単に既製品を大きくしたり、小さくしたりするだけではありません。肩や胸、ウエストのバランス、着丈や袖のラインまで調整し、デザインの魅力と着心地を両立させていきます。

Custom tailoring involves more than simply making a standard size larger or smaller. We adjust the balance of the shoulders, chest, and waist, along with the body length and sleeve lines, to bring together the character of the design and a comfortable fit.

トワルを製作し、立体でシルエットを確認

Checking the Silhouette with a Toile

完成したパターンから、仮縫い用のトワルを製作。レザーを裁断する前に、布でジャケットの形を組み立てます。

From the completed pattern, we made a fabric toile—a fitting sample that allows us to check the jacket’s shape before cutting the leather.

トワルをご試着いただき、肩まわりや胸まわり、ウエスト、着丈、袖丈、全体のバランスを確認。平面のパターンだけでは分からない部分を、実際の身体に合わせて調整していく大切な工程です。

During the toile fitting, we checked the shoulders, chest, waist, body length, sleeves, and overall balance. This essential stage allows us to refine details that cannot be fully assessed from a flat pattern alone.

襟の形や切り替えのライン、スタッズの配置も、立体になった状態で確認。ここでの調整をパターンに反映し、本番のレザー製作へ進みます。

We also checked the collar shape, panel lines, and stud placement on the three-dimensional sample. These adjustments were then reflected in the pattern before moving on to the leather.

いよいよ、本番のレザーを裁断

Cutting the Leather

トワルでサイズとシルエットを確認したら、いよいよ本番のレザーを裁断します。村岡様専用のパターンを革に配置し、一つひとつのパーツを切り出していきます。

Once the fit and silhouette were confirmed with the toile, we began cutting the leather. Each piece was cut using the custom pattern created for Mr. Muraoka.

革は一枚ごとに表情が異なり、同じ一枚の中でも厚みや質感、伸び方に違いがあります。それぞれのパーツに適した部分を見極めながら、仕上がりのバランスを考えて裁断します。

Every hide has its own character, and even within a single hide, the thickness, texture, and stretch can vary. We select suitable areas for each panel while considering the balance of the finished jacket.

縫製で、パーツを一着のライダースへ

Bringing the Jacket Together through

裁断したレザーのパーツを縫い合わせ、少しずつジャケットの形へ。平面だった革が立体になり、ライダースならではのシルエットが現れてきます。

The cut leather panels are sewn together, gradually taking the shape of a jacket. The flat pieces become a three-dimensional garment, revealing the distinctive silhouette of the design.

切り替えのラインや縫い目のつながりを確認しながら、一工程ずつ丁寧に進めます。採寸とトワルで整えたバランスを、実際のレザーで形にしていく作業です。

We work carefully through each stage, checking the panel lines and how the seams come together. This is where the proportions developed through the measurements and toile fitting take shape in leather.

スタッズを、一つひとつ手作業で

Setting Each Stud by Hand

今回のライダースを印象づけるのが、各部に施すスタッズワーク。配置を確認しながら、一つひとつ手作業で取り付けていきます。

One of the defining features of this jacket is its stud work. Each stud is set by hand, with careful attention to its placement.

仕上がったときには自然に見える配列も、製作中は位置や間隔、左右のバランスを細かく確認する必要があります。襟や切り替えのラインに沿って、レザーと金属の表情を重ねていきます。

An arrangement that looks effortless when finished requires close attention to spacing, position, and balance during production. Along the collar and panel lines, the leather and metal come together to give the jacket its character.

縫製とスタッズ打ちは、取り付ける場所に応じて工程を組み合わせながら進めています。少しずつ、Obeliskらしい存在感のある一着になってきました。

Sewing and stud setting are coordinated according to where each stud needs to be attached. Step by step, the jacket is developing the distinctive presence of Obelisk.

ご来店と既製品のご試着から始まり、採寸、専用パターンの作成、トワル製作、本番のレザー裁断、縫製、そしてスタッズ打ちへ。一つひとつの工程を重ねながら、村岡様だけのライダースを製作しています。

From the shop visit and initial fitting to measurements, custom pattern making, toile construction, leather cutting, sewing, and hand-set studs, every stage contributes to a jacket made especially for Mr. Muraoka.
