Reviving the Obelisk Denim Leather Western Shirt After More Than 10 Years – A New Sheep Leather Edition Begins

約10年以上前に制作したObeliskオリジナルのデニムレザーウエスタンシャツ。
一見するとデニムシャツに見えますが、実は素材は馬革。デニムのような風合いを表現した「デニムレザー」を使用した、Obeliskならではのオリジナルデザインです。

More than ten years ago, Obelisk created its original Denim Leather Western Shirt.
Although it looks like a denim shirt at first glance, it is actually made from horsehide leather. This unique “Denim Leather” recreates the appearance of denim while offering the texture and character of genuine leather.
現代のスタイルへアップデート

当時は細身でタイトなシルエットが人気でした。
しかし現在は、軽さや着心地、そして程よくゆとりのあるサイズ感が求められる時代へと変化しています。
そこで今回は、オリジナルデザインの魅力を残しながら、現代のスタイルに合わせてアップデートすることにしました。

Back then, slim and fitted silhouettes were the standard.
Today, people prefer clothing that is lighter, more comfortable, and offers a more relaxed fit.
With that in mind, we decided to modernize this classic design while preserving everything that made the original special.
素材はシープレザーへ

新作では、柔らかく、薄く、そして驚くほど軽いシープレザーを採用。
本革ならではの高級感を保ちながら、より軽快で快適な着心地を実現します。
写真は、羊革の1枚です。羊は、身体が小さいので、これで、60ds程（１頭）です。
ちなみに牛革は、およそ４倍の220～240dsあります。（半頭で）
このままですと、厚みが1.2mmありますので、専門業者に0.8mmに漉き加工していただきます。
ちなみに、革の面積を表す単位がds(デシ）で、１デシは10㎝四方です。

The new version will be crafted from soft, thin, and remarkably lightweight sheep leather.
It retains the luxurious feel of genuine leather while providing exceptional comfort for everyday wear.
The photo shows a single sheepskin hide.
Because sheep are relatively small animals, one hide measures approximately 60 ds (decimeters).
For comparison, a half hide of cow leather is about 220–240 ds, roughly four times larger than a sheepskin.
At this stage, the leather is approximately 1.2 mm thick, so it will be professionally split down to 0.8 mm to achieve a lighter, more comfortable finish.
By the way, “ds” (decimeter) is the standard unit used to measure leather area. One deci (1 ds) is equal to an area of 10 cm × 10cm.
トワル製作からスタッズデザインへ

まずはオリジナルのパターンをもとに、新しいシルエットのトワル（仮縫い）を製作。
シルエットやサイズバランスを細かく確認しながら、より着やすい形へと調整しました。
さらにObeliskの象徴でもあるスタッズデザインも見直し、新しいフラワーモチーフのレイアウトを決定しました。

The first step was creating a new toile (prototype) based on the original pattern.
We carefully refined the silhouette and proportions to achieve a more comfortable modern fit.
We also redesigned Obelisk’s signature stud decoration, developing a fresh floral layout for both the front and back.
